LA GUÊPE takes us to a rundown motel in the middle of nowhere, where a manager works herself into a frenzy, completely invisible to the clientele. This is her nest, where she tries to survive with her daughter, to whom she tries to offer a life she never had the chance to have. When a mysterious client arrives at the establishment, the woman begins to fear that he wants to get close to her teenage daughter, suspecting that he is hiding his true intentions. She may even believe she knows him from another life... But the endless cycle of days and the blistering heat will cloud her mind and her memories.

For his very first film, Marc Beaupré directs a highly controlled work in which the tension builds brilliantly. His years of experience as a director, overseeing actors, but also himself acting on stage and in front of the camera, give him the necessary experience to hit very hard with his first film. The motel becomes a closed setting, a place where time no longer matters, and where an eerie, hyper-realistic and soaring atmosphere pervades. Marie-France Marcotte gives a visceral performance, a strong portrait of a desperate mother who says a lot with few words. The film is raw, always in close proximity to its protagonist who tries to survive through her too-short nights in the stifling heat of midsummer. LA GUÊPE is presented exclusively at Fantasia. Be the first to discover this short film that will be the talk of the town in the coming year. – Translation: Rupert Bottenberg
