Program presented by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism | Republic of Korea, ?KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency), KIAFA (Korean Independant Animation Filmmaker Association) and Korean Cultural Centre in Canada
This year, Fantasia presents a special Korean Animation Spotlight screening series, showcasing an amazing variety of excellent works. The centrepiece of the series is the Perspectives 2022 programme, offering ten brand-new short films from the catalogue of AniSEED, the distribution wing of KIAFA (Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers’ Association). So new, in fact, that several are world premieres, while others are fresh off appearances at Cannes and Annecy. Covering a wide spectrum of styles, techniques, and themes, the ten short films nonetheless share a common standard of excellence.
NALSUM is alarmed by an individual’s forced belonging to a group, while GOODBYE, DRAMA! is a poetic film of love, solitude, and emotional independence. An old man is on trial for the murder of a mountain bird, in AMEN A MAN. SCENT OF MY SHAPE is a tribute to Joseon-era poetess Heo Nanseolheon. In APARTMENT, a robber breaks in on a woman who lives alone, and SHINING NIGHT witnesses the explorations of a newborn sea turtle. OUR 2 commemorates the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, and in THE HOUSE OF LOSS, a nursing-home employee comes to truly know the elderly veterans there. PERSONA speaks of experiences, processes, and memories that had to distance themselves from those who coexist, and in THINGS THAT DISAPPEAR, an elderly person, living alone in an area under redevelopment, holds a funeral for a dead cat on the street. – Rupert Bottenberg
