All good things must come to an end, and as the title suggests, this is the final short-film programme from DJ XL5. Indeed, DJ XL8 has come from the future to warn DJ XL5 that the mews of the crowd at his July 2023 programme, in conjunction with an alignment of the planets, will awaken an underground race of cat-people who will conquer our world and turn all humans into meow mix, and Fantasia, into a cat-film festival. DJ XL5 must sacrifice himself to save humanity. But never mind, his latest Zappin' Party will be an epic work of just over two hours, consisting of over 20 short films. This programme will feature not three, but four short films that revolve around pickles... seriously!
Of course, don't worry, Simon Tofield's SIMON'S CAT will be back with an episode about a pickle. From our American neighbours comes FRIED PICKLES by the duo Jon Rhoads & Mike Marrero, making its world premiere, a film about a group of friends who recall the precise moment they learned of Michael Jackson's death. Chris McInroy, a regular at DJ XL5's parties, offers the Canadian premiere of GUTS, a plea for acceptance of all those whose guts come out of their stomachs. From France, discover the Montreal premiere of MESOZOÏQUE ALTERNATIF by Swann Boby, Lucie Laudrin, Marion Métivier, Léna Miguet, Sixtine Sanrame & Marie Schaeffer, an amusing revision of the Age of Reptiles. From Switzerland, let's celebrate the Montreal premiere of the return of Cowboy, Indien and Cheval in the latest installment of the PANIQUE AU VILLAGE franchise: LES GRANDES VACANCES by Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier.
The program will showcase a number of Quebec shorts, including five world premieres: GUIMAUVE by Daniel Grenier, HOROSCOPE DE LA DUMP by Maude Morissette, ANETTE by Joe Lebreux, FELIS INFERNALIS by Margaux Caron-Théberge, and A ROBOT HAS NO HEART by Éric Lavoie, to which DJ XL5 also contributed. In addition, you will discover the eccentric BRIGITTE by Gabriel Auclair-Doucet in its Quebec premiere, and the hilarious MONSIEUR MAGIE by Pat Gauthier, a Montreal premiere. You will also see three short films by Frédéric Lavigne, FINGER DIPPER in its Canadian premiere, the baroque PICKEL and the disturbing LE TRIAMOIS. Finally, POP THE MATRIX by Valérie Leclair, LE MONDE DU JAMAIS JAMAIS by Hugo Belhassen, and MARCEL BEAUSÉJOUR by Cédric Senécal & Sam Proulx will satisfy the most demanding. Finally, short animations by Rachel Samson, Louis Bodart and Francis TIND Théberge will enhance your evening. – Translation: Rupert Bottenberg
