FANTASIA REVEALS THE LINEUP OF FANTASTIQUES WEEK-ENDS DU CINÉMA QUÉBÉCOIS

Montréal, June 15, 2022 - The Fantasia International Film Festival, whose 26th edition will take place from July 14 to August 3, 2022, is very pleased to announce the selections for the Fantastiques week-ends du cinéma québécois. This year, the Festival's section dedicated to Quebec cinema will present 11 feature films, including Denis Côté's latest directorial effort UN ÉTÉ COMME ÇA, nearly 80 short films, and the second season of Maude Morissette's webseries LA DUMP, with the voices of Laurent Paquin, Anaïs Favron, Édith Cochrane, Yves P Pelletier and Léane Labrèche-Dor.

6 FEATURE FILMS PREMIERED AT THE CINÉMA DU MUSÉE

During this edition, les Fantastiques weekends du cinéma québécois will present several feature films at the Cinéma du Musée. Festival-goers will be able to discover UN ÉTÉ COMME ÇA, Denis Côté's latest effort, starring Larissa Corriveau (RÉPERTOIRE DES VILLES DISPARUES) alongside Laure Giappiconi (LA DOULEUR), Anne Ratte Polle (UNDINE), Samir Guesmi (IBRAHIM) and Aude Mathieu. In his fourteenth feature film, presented at this year's Berlinale, the filmmaker explores sexuality through female characters. The audience will also be able to see PUNTA SINISTRA, a new feature by Fantasia regular Renaud Gauthier (DISCOPATHE, AQUASPLASH). It will be presented as part of a double bill with LA GUÊPE, Marc Beaupré's first feature film. The public will also be able to see QUE LE FAN SOIT AVEC TOI, a documentary by Marc Joly-Corcoran that follows three Star Wars franchise fans over a five-year period. His presentation will be accompanied by Raphaël Hébert's short film BRIGHTSTAR, an ambitious film by Quebec Star Wars fans. Also on the programme: Alexandre Leblanc's LES PAS D'ALLURE, a screening accompanied by David Émond-Ferrat's horror short DANS L'OMBRE, in which a small group of activists attempt to take down a popular radio station that uses its airwaves to control the population's mind; Mitchell Stafiej's THE DIABETIC, shot in 16mm, in which a young man in his thirties returns to his Montreal suburb to relive the simplicity of his youth, and Aristomenis Tsirbas' family genre film TIMESCAPE.

THE SECOND SEASON OF LA DUMP PRESENTED IN ITS WORLD PREMIERE

Fantasia premieres the second season of LA DUMP, a webseries written and directed by Maude Morissette. Laurent Paquin, Anaïs Favron, Édith Cochrane, Yves Pelletier and Léane Labrèche-Dor lend their voices to a family of dysfunctional puppets who have been living in the sewers since they were deported from the U.S. for public disorder.

NEARLY 80 SHORT FILMS TO ENJOY

This year, les Fantastiques week-ends will present seven short-film program screenings at the Cinéma du Musée. Audiences will be able to discover several shorts that have distinguished themselves on the festival circuit in recent months, such as LA MAIN GAUCHE by Maxime Robin (Cannes Festival) and L'AUTRE RIVE by Gaëlle Gratton (Festival REGARD). Furthermore, les Fantastiques week-ends du cinéma québécois are also very pleased to renew their partnership with the animation department of the CÉGEP du Vieux Montréal, which will present 11 animated shorts. In addition, Fantasia will once again reward local talent with cash grants, equipment loans, and visibility thanks to the support of its valuable partners: the Association des Réalisateurs et Réalisatrices du Québec (ARRQ), the Bureau du Cinéma et de la Télévision du Québec, the Canadian Cinema Editors (C.C.E.), the Department of Film and Television, the Department of Film and Television, and the Department of Film and Television. C.E.), Cégep du Vieux-Montréal's animation department, Entreprises Vidéo Service (EVS), INIS, MAtv, SLA Location, Spira and the Union des Artistes.

GENRES DU PAYS RETURNS TO LA CINÉMATHÈQUE QUÉBÉCOISE

Les Fantastiques weekends offer a chance to discover a series of restored works at la Cinémathèque Québécoise through the section Genres du pays. Fantasia will present three feature films produced by Pierre David: BINGO, in collaboration with Éléphant : mémoire du cinéma québécois, and VISITING HOURS directed by Jean-Claude Lord, as well as a rare 35mm print of MUSTANG by Marcel Lefebvre. The festival will present the Denis-Héroux Award to Pierre David for his exceptional contribution to the development of genre and independent cinema in Quebec. Finally, Fantasia will allow festivalgoers to discover the world premiere of a restored version of Camil Adam's MANETTE OU LES DIEUX DE CARTON, presented in collaboration with Éléphant; as well as Louis Saia's LES DANGEREUX, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year during a screening attended by the film's crew.

TWO CAREER AWARDS FOR ROLAND SMITH AND JEAN-PIERRE TADROS

The Fantasia Festival takes the opportunity to present two special Career Awards: one to Roland Smith for his exceptional contribution to the dissemination of the seventh art in Quebec, and the other to Jean-Pierre Tadros, founder of the CTVM, the reference site for Quebec audiovisual professionals, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the promotion of the seventh art and its industry.

The 26th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival is presented by Videotron in collaboration with Desjardins, and is made possible through the financial support of Telefilm Canada, the Government of Québec, SODEC, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation, Tourisme Québec, the City of Montréal, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and Tourisme Montréal.

A new wave of Fantasia 2022 titles will be announced later this month. The full program will be unveiled in late June. Tickets will go on sale shortly thereafter.
